Apple filed suit against OpenAI on Friday, accusing the AI company of a coordinated effort to obtain confidential information about Apple's unannounced products. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, centers on two named defendants: Tang Tan, OpenAI's chief hardware officer and a 24-year Apple veteran who led iPhone and Apple Watch product design, and Chang Liu, a former Apple senior electrical engineer.
Apple alleges Tan used the company's internal project code names during OpenAI recruiting, asked candidates still employed at Apple to bring physical components to interviews for "show and tell," and coached departing staff on how to evade Apple's exit security checks. Liu is accused of retaining an Apple-issued laptop after leaving for OpenAI and using a network bug to download dozens of confidential hardware files.
OpenAI has called the allegations baseless, saying in a statement it has "no interest in other companies' trade secrets." Apple is seeking a jury trial, the return of its materials, and a redesign of any OpenAI hardware found to rely on its technology — with the device business reportedly targeted for a 2026 launch.
Hyundai Motor, the tournament's official robotics partner, brought Atlas onto the pitch at New York/New Jersey Stadium during the Brazil–Norway match.
